Correx Board

What Correx board is

Correx is a trade name for twin-wall fluted polypropylene: two flat skins with vertical flutes between them, extruded as one sheet. It is the same construction as cardboard, in plastic, which is why it is light and rigid at the same time and why it does not soften in the rain.

Midcomp manufactures it in South Africa as CorreXtreme, in 2mm, 3mm and 5mm, with a surface flat enough to print directly on an HP Latex or UV flatbed machine.

What it is used for

Correx earns its place wherever signage has to be cheap, light and temporary without looking it.

• Estate agent boards. Weatherproof, light enough to fix to a pole, cheap

enough to replace when the listing changes.

• Construction and site signage. Survives a building site and a winter.
• Event and exhibition graphics. Cuts to shape on a digital table, stacks

flat, carries easily.

• Point-of-sale and promotional displays. Print, cut, crease and fold from

one sheet.

• Protective sheeting. Floor and surface protection during a fit-out.

Choosing a thickness

2mm suits interior display and anything that will be handled once. 3mm is the general-purpose signage thickness and what most estate agent and site boards are made from. 5mm is for larger boards, longer spans and anywhere the sheet has to stay flat without a frame.

Printing on it

Correx prints directly on UV flatbed and HP Latex machines. The flutes run in one direction, so artwork orientation matters: a board that will be cut into strips should be laid out with the flutes running the length of the strip, or the strips will flex. For eyelets and pole pockets, keep the fixing points on the flute line.

Cutting and finishing

A digital cutting table cuts, creases and routes Correx without a die, which is what makes short runs and odd shapes economic. Zünd tables handle it with an oscillating knife; a guillotine works for straight cuts. Grommets and eyelets go in with a PlastGrommet machine.
